SMS verification is paid for separately from your plan, in credits. Open Fraud Protection → OTP Verification and find SMS credit balance, described as "Credits left in your account for verification SMS". The same balance is shown on the dashboard under SMS protection, with a Top up button.
Four packs are on offer. Mini is 50 credits for $9.99. Medium is 200 credits for $29.99 and carries the badge Most popular. Large is 1000 credits for $129.99, and Ultra is 10000 credits for $1199.99. Each pack shows its price per credit. Buy credits sends you to Shopify to approve a one time charge, and the credits are added once it goes through.
One verification message does not always cost one credit. The How SMS credits work panel explains it and lists the countries: "Each verification SMS uses credits from your balance. The number of credits depends on the destination country of the customer's phone number." A listed country costs one, two, three or four credits depending on which one it is, and anywhere not listed costs three. If most of your customers are in a one credit country, a pack goes a long way. If they are not, budget accordingly.
Standard adds 10% extra credits and Premium adds 30% extra credits to every pack, at the same pack price. The pack does not spell the bonus out anywhere: the credit count printed on it already includes it, and so does the price per credit. If you send a lot of verification messages, that bonus is often worth more than the plan costs.
Two banners appear as the balance falls: Low credit balance with the number of credits left, and No OTP credits left, which notes that "Depending on your policy, OTP may be bypassed or blocked". The app also emails you when the balance gets low. Set your policy under When OTP credits run out so you know which of the two happens on your store.
Estimate your monthly need from the codes you send, not from your orders: credits are spent when the code goes out, so an abandoned verification or a resend costs the same as a finished one.
Compare the price per credit shown on each pack before you buy: the larger packs cost noticeably less per message.
