These are the three rules merchants ask for most. Each one is built the same way: Shopify Checkout → Rules → Add rule, give it a name, add the conditions, save. On Free and Basic only one rule is used, so pick the one that protects you most.
This limits how much money rides on a single refused parcel. On the Order details tab, switch on Hide based on order subtotal and set the range. Both ends of the range count as inside it, so a maximum of 50 also hides at exactly 50. The figure is the cart subtotal before discount codes, taxes and shipping, so a discount code does not bring an order under your threshold.
Want COD off whenever a discount code is used? On the same tab, switch on Hide based on order discount and set Min to 1, leaving Max empty. That is a discount amount in your currency, not a percentage. Test this one before you rely on it: the app works the discount out as the subtotal minus the total, so on a store whose cart total already includes tax the figure can come out as zero and the rule never fires.
On the Location tab, use Hide based on country or Hide based on province to pick the places. Hide based on postal codes is more precise: paste the codes separated by commas, or upload a CSV or TXT file with one code per line.
On the Products tab, Hide based on products and Hide based on collections remove Cash on Delivery whenever the cart contains something from your list, which is what you want for fragile or high value goods. The same tab has Hide if gift card is in cart.
Most conditions also exist as a Show version, for example Show based on country. The gift card and customer registration conditions only hide. Use the Show versions when cash on delivery should be the exception, such as offering it only to your home market. Do not mix Show and Hide in one rule unless you mean it: a satisfied Show condition always keeps COD visible.
Test each rule in your own checkout, with one cart that matches and one that does not.
Need several of these at once? Standard and Premium allow up to 10 rules, and the Add rule button stops there.
Wanting the same limits on the COD form instead? The form has its own country and cart value settings.
